New Balance’s latest colab is stoking hype to rake in dollars – for a truly remarkable cause. In conjunction with DC retailer DTLR, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – a non-profit medical organisation that treats children with ‘catastrophic diseases’ at no cost to their families – have made a New Balance 530. Wrapped in premium burgundy suede and adorned with a leather vamp, the suave sneaker will help save children’s lives: 100 per cent of proceeds (which could total $120,900) will be funnelled into the hospital’s terminal illness research programs, while supporting founder Danny Thomas’s vision that ‘no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.’
While many will cop for looks alone, it’s uplifting to know a sneaker purchase will contribute to the hospital’s mission to ‘advance cures, and means of prevention, for paediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.’
Adults’ and children’s sizes are available, meaning that when they drop through DTLR on September 29 you can get pairs for the whole family.
