Stand Out Sneakers from the MTV Video Music Awards

The Video Music Awards are just as much about the red carpet fashion as they are about the trophies. While Kendrick Lamar dominated the awards show, several other stars made their sartorial mark on the VMAs carpet. Here, we take a look at some of the best sneaker moments to come out of this weekend’s much-hyped MTV event.

Lorde was so ill with the flu in the lead up to the VMAs that she needed IV medication, and perhaps that drip gave her the courage to mix Nike and adidas on the awards stage. The singer performed in adidas Originals Superstars, which she paired with a unique Jourden x Nike Air VaporMax dress. Jourden’s lead designer told W Magazine that the dress aimed to combine “femininity with the ultra sleek design of the Nike VaporMax.”

In his first awards show appearance as a member of team Nike, Kendrick opted for the Cortez Shark Low. Like a true shark, Kung Fu Kenny snapped up six of the eight awards for which he was nominated.

While Teyana Taylor paid homage to Janet Jackson’s 1995 VMAS look, Iman Shumpert came out to support his wife in Yeezy Season 2 Crepe Boots. Baby Junie stayed loyal to her mum’s Reebok deal in toddler-sized Reebok Classics.

After hosting last year’s VMA red carpet, hip hop artist Lizzo declared on Instagram that, this year, she was the red carpet. In what must be one of the first pairings of a garter and sneakers at an awards show, Lizzo finished off her bridal-inspired look with a pair of crystal-covered Nikes.

Damn, Lil Uzi he is so clean! Uzi stepped out in Dior Homme Calfskin trainers following the successful release of his latest album, Luv Is Rage 2.

DJ Khaled turned his VMAs performance into a family affair. Young Asahd was wearing Gucci Aces, while DJ Khaled sported a pair of Supreme x Air Jordan 5 retros.

Logic sported a very casual red carpet look, finishing things off with a pair of CNCPTS x Nike SB Dunk Highs from the ‘Ugly Christmas Sweater’ pack. Logic’s dug into the archives for this look: the shoes released back in 2013.

The 19 year old won the Best New Artist at this years VMAs. However, this fresh young artist kept things classic with a pair of white Air Force 1 lows.

Lil Boat floated down the VMAs carpet in the Yeezy Powerphase Calabasas, providing his own preppy take on the adidas classic.

Kodak came with a stack of $100 bills, yellow and purple Louboutins, and a tracksuit to match.

Sure, she isn’t wearing sneakers, but the Golden Barbie deserves an honourable mention for achieving the impossible: making Uggs look hot at the club. Sanders rocked this look at the VMAs afterparty.
