A week is a long time in the sneaker game – you’d be forgiven for falling behind on the latest news. And so we give you ICYMI, a curated recount of recent need-to-know stories: releases, colourways and industry chatter – it’s all here… in case you missed it!
HBO COLLABORATE WITH KOIO ON OFFICIAL 'GAME OF THRONES' COLAB
HBO have collaborated with top-tier sneaker brand Koio to create some very special Game of Thrones-inspired kicks. Themed after Jaime Lannister, the shoes come bedecked with enough gold to pay off Cersei’s debt to the Iron Bank – complete with golden-hand lace dubrae. The colab will not be sold in stores and is strictly available through a competition on Koio’s Instagram page.
NIKE OFFICIALLY REVEAL THE AIR JORDAN XXX2
The latest entry in the Air Jordan line-up has been officially revealed. Like the Air Jordan XXXI before it, the Air Jordan XXX2 reaches back 30 years into the past – this time drawing heavy stylistic inspiration from the Air Jordan 2. As expected, the new flagship model features the very latest tech available, including ‘high-tenacity yarn’ and ‘Flight Plates’.
KENDRICK LAMAR LEAVES REEBOK FOR NIKE
After two years and multiple collaborations, Kendrick Lamar has officially ended his contract with Reebok and switched sides to Nike. It’s not entirely clear what the partnership will entail, though it appears Kendrick will be the new face of the Cortez – a fitting combination due to the model’s legendary reputation in K Dot’s hometown of Compton.
BESPOKEIND CREATE OFF-WHITE X NIKE AIR MAX 1S
In response to Virgil Abloh’s claim that his upcoming Nike collection can be replicated at home, Melbourne footwear atelier BespokeIND have produced two different versions of an Off-White x Nike Air Max 1. Created as a ‘what if’ project, the pairs mimic the deconstructed style of Abloh’s Nike colab collection with premium construction. Just eight pairs of each version are up for grabs.
BIG BALLER BRAND GIVES YOUNGEST SON FIRST SIGNATURE MODEL
LaMelo Ball has followed in the footsteps of big brother Lonzo, receiving his very own signature shoe under Big Baller Brand, called the MB1. The reveal makes the 16-year-old the first high schooler to have their own signature sneaker, though it looks to be out of reach for most high-schoolers thanks to its $395 price tag!
NIKE REVOLUTIONISE SNEAKER MANUFACTURING WITH ELECTROMAGNETIC ROBOTS
Nike have just made a huge investment in the future of sneaker manufacturing, integrating Grabit’s revolutionary T1000 robots into the production process at a cost of $100k per unit. The electromagnetic bots are expected to minimise the need for human intervention in the manufacturing process, constructing uppers at a rate of 16 to 24 times faster than humanly possible.
UNDEFEATED X NIKE AIR MAX 97 COLAB CONFIRMED, WHITE VERSION REVEALED
Having first leaked online in early August, the Gucci-inspired Undefeated x Nike Air Max 97 has now been officially confirmed for release in late September. Though DJ Khaled took to Twitter to reveal a previously unseen white rendition of the colab, it’s unknown if this version will release to the public.
NIKE AIR MAX 1 'ANNIVERSARY' RESTOCK RUMOURS
In the lead up to this year’s Air Max Day, Nike celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Air Max 1 with true-to-form retros of the silhouette’s two OG colourways – both of which sold out instantly upon release. Now, almost six months later, rumours have begun to circulate that both colourways will be seeing a re-release following the appearance of red and blue ‘Anniversary’ AM1s on retail release calendars.
THE ADIDAS ULTRABOOST GETS A NEW KNIT
A new iteration of the UltraBOOST has hit the web, which features greater ventilation than ever seen before. Said to be called the UltraBOOST Clima, the new model features increased perforation and a Primeknit lace cage. The model is rumoured for release in early 2018.
